Finger Lime (Microcitrus australasica)

A sub-tropical rainforest understorey shrub or small tree (up to 10 metres) found only in northern  NSW and south-east  QLD.

The aromatic leaves are narrow, glossy and 1-4cm long, but beware the sharp 2cm spines/thorns.

The scented flowers are orange/white.

The cylindrical fruit are up to 10cm long and usually green but can also be yellow, red, purple, and black. The pleasantly acid, edible juice has a lime/sharp lemon taste. The fruit can be picked in summer/autumn.
