A small, slender and sparsely branched rainforest tree to 12 metres.
It has large leaves about 1 metre long and leaflets with rusty hairs which can detach and penetrate the skin when touched, causing irritation. The symmetrical crown flushes with pink new leaf growth.
Long panicles of small reddish-pink flowers are borne on old wood.
This is followed in winter by long strings, bunches or clusters of edible purple plum-like fruits, 5cm in diameter.
Used for jam and wine.
