A wetland tree from NSW/QLD growing to 25 metres. The bark is papery, thick, and white/beige/grey. The bark can wrap fish for cooking, can be used to carry water, or can provide shelter.
In summer to autumn, creamy white bottlebrush-like flowers appear in 8cm cylindrical spikes.
The fragrant blossoms serve as a rich source of nectar for fruit bats (grey-headed and little red flying fox), birds (scaly-breasted lorikeet), and a wide range of insects.
Tawny frogmouth families live here too.
